On earth as it is in heaven.
I am Ngaruawahia born and bred and very, very Give us this day our daily bread
proud of our beautiful town, and I congratulate And forgive us our trespasses,
Ngaruawahia soccer on your 50th Anniversary As we forgive those
      celebrations.                                                Who trespass against us;
It is my very great privilege and honour to be And lead us not into temptation,
here today to first give thanks to those members who But deliver us from evil.
have passed. I am sure there has been a lot of reminiscing For Thine is the Kingdom,
this weekend, so let us take a moment to remember them. The power and the glory.
It is also important that I would like to thank our For ever and ever.
volunteers. Ngaruawahia has a very proud volunteer Amen.
history, from Plunket to schools, the arts and culture and Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
through to our senior citizens. But I personally love the
wonderful sense of community amongst our sports clubs At the remembrance Paul MIDDLETON
and the many volunteers it take to run these service, the names of Ian MILLER
organisations. members known to have Georgie MILLER
I have great memories of the 80’s when all our passed away were read. Ken MILLS
sports clubs were top-rated and how hard it was even Bob MORELL
then to work to keep a sports club thriving. John Jnr MURPHY
Volunteers work in the background, sometimes Jimmy ANDERSON Paddy MURPHY
forgotten and often over-looked as they are “always Haskel BARBER Ken MURRAY
around doing things” and this just becomes the norm. Gary BARNES Evelyn MURRAY
But to go back 50 years, when soccer was first Ron BARNES Mitchell PATERSON
played on the cricket pitch here, where your number 2 Jimmy BARRY Anne PATTERSON
field is today, there would have been dreams, but in Robin BELL Dick PLUME
reality who would have thought that there would be this Merv BIRD Francis PRENDERGAST
very successful club with such wonderful facilities that Val CALLAGHAN Glenys PRENDERGAST
you all enjoy today. Albert CATHRO Shona PRENDERGAST
We have to give thanks to all those wonderful Liam COOPER Paul RIGG
volunteers, both past and present, who have toiled over Jeff COULSHED Brendon ROBINSON
these years to make this club what it is today. Kevin CRYER Jack ROBSON
Again, think back over the past year, month or Lynette DEAN Maria ROWE
even week - what were you doing? The work it has taken Rob DENNIS Michael SCHIMANSKI
to co-ordinate and put this wonderful weekend together, Ian DOUGLAS Jimmy SELLARS
and it has been a very busy time, and again it is the Larry FITNESS Maureen SELLARS

make this 50th Anniversary celebrations such a success. Charlie Snr GORMAN Janet SUNNEX
I think this Volunteer poem is quite apt, short and to the Mary GORMAN Joe TEMPLETON
      point: Glen GRAY Lloyd TRESSIDER
The key to our success Charlie GREEN George TUCKER
Rests in people like you Dave HALL Clyde TURNER
Who embody the spirit of greatness William HARDING Don VULETICH
By saying “Yes I can, and you can too”. Ben HENCKEL Anita WHITTLE
Thank you again for the invitation to speak, and in Ronnie JOHNSON Wal WILLIAMSON

Our Father who art in Heaven Dick LONGMUIR Ron ZIMMERMAN
