Deckhand/greaser Graham Harnett, one of the dredge’s four shift crewmen, cleans the cutting head. The
revolving head stirs up the mud on the lake bottom so that the dredge’s big pumps can suck up a mud and water
mixture. Because of the quantity of timber and logs buried in the mud the cutting head had to be raised
frequently for cleaning.
